Initially didn't like the trade do to my love of Clifford Pu, Swords lose Pomminville and Moulson after this year according to my research(Google), pay's for Skinner.

Kept all their first rounder's is the what puts it over the top. Good job Buffalo GM

Skinner waiving a full NTC to come to Buffalo does not scream of a one year rental, re Tanner.

Is there something not to like about this trade that I'm not aware of?

So I guess the question do the Sabres improve their playoff chances or just hurting their draft position by wining a few more games.

Good for the fans though at least the management is trying to give them a chance to win more consistently.

Jeff Skinner wanted out. But he wanted out to a team of his choosing.

The Hurricanes wanted him gone, for a variety of reasons, only a portion of which being on the ice. There was no way they were going to start next season with him still on the roster and have a "Matt Duchene" type situation.

It's worth remembering that the Hurricanes are going into next season with around $35 million in cap space, and only 5 NHL level forwards under contract.

They have to sign Aho and Teravainen, which will likely cost about $12-15 million.

That gives them about $21~ million or so to spread out across 5 forwards, 1 defenseman and a goaltender, while maintaining the space that will be required to sign Svechnikov, Necas and Zykov after that.

Skinner is going to get a feature role in buffalo and probably cash in huge in free agency as a result.

Plus he's going to Buffalo, where his defensive deficiencies may be overlooked a bit more considering the state of their team defense the past few years.

He's only under contract for a year and his defensive play is next to non existent most of the time.

But he scores at such a high rate it doesn't matter.

Not a shot at you but this is what I have heard.

Prior to trade, you are not getting Skiiner without a 1st, good prospect and roster player coming back.

Now.

Eh, he doesn't play defense, hes not worth all of that.

Come on, Carolina couldnt pass on such value they got on Skinner.

This reminds me of a trade in NHL18, when you keep piling in crap and hope the PC finally accepts.

I don’t read too much into him waiving his ntc. H will be a free agent. He will play top line with a great center, likely increase his numbers, therefor increasing his value. Great situation from an individual standpoint. He is a smart guy.

He vetoed trades to LA (Playoff team with great centers)

Skinner was apparently vetoing trades left and right at the draft (including LA reportedly) and says yes to Buffalo.

but its Buffalo, and why would anyone want to go there, amIrite?

Penguins had reported interest, he nixed a trade to l.a, better teams than Buffalo but he wanted to come here, I put good stock in that, not saying he’s a slam dunk to resign, but I doubt we waived just because of a good chance.
He’d look good playing next to Kopitar as well, but, chose Buffalo.

If the Saber's can lock him up it's a good trade. If not, then it was pointless. They aren't nearly as good as the top teams in the East, so their window isn't open yet. I guess we'll see.
